Chakka Kottai Thoran

Ingredients

  • Jack Fruit seed, deskinned and randomly crushed – 500gm
  • Coconut, grated – ½cup
  • Dry Red Chili – 4nos
  • Channa Dhal – 3tsp
  • Rice – 1tsp
  • Salt – 1tsp (adjust to your taste)
  • Oil – 2tsp
  • Mustard – 1tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1tsp
  • Asafetida – 1pinch
  • Fresh Curry leaves – 1bunch

Method

  • Pressure cook crushed jack fruit seed with as little water as required
  • Dry roast 2tsp of channa dhal, rice, dry red chili, coconut
  • Grind dry roasted ingredients into fine powder
  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Add mustard and allow it to splutter
  • Add channa dhal, fresh curry leaves and fry until golden brown
  • Add turmeric powder, asafoetida, mix well
  • Add cooked jack fruit seed and cook well
  • Add salt, mix well
  • Add the ground ingredients, mix well
  • Simmer the Flame and cook closed for about 5min
  • Serve hot with any rice item
