Upma Balls

Ingredients

  • Rava – 2cups
  • Onion, long sliced – 1nos
  • Oil – 2tbsp
  • Mustard – 1tsp
  • Channa Dhal – 1tsp
  • Urad Dhal – 1tsp
  • Red Chili – 2nos
  • Green Chili – 2nos (adjust to your spice level)
  • Salt – 1tsp (adjust to your taste)
  • Asafoetida – 1pinch
  • Curry Leaves – 1bunch

Method

  • Heat 1tsp oil in a pan
  • Add ½tsp of mustard, allow it to splutter
  • Add ½tsp each of channa dhal, urad dhal
  • Add green chili, curry leaves, asafoetida, fry a little
  • Add salt
  • Add 3~3½cups of water, allow it to boil
  • Add rava little by little while stirring, such that no lumps are formed, mix well
  • Close cook in low flame for 3~4min
  • Allow upma to cool
  • Now make upma into multiple balls of same size
  • Steam cook for 10min
  • Heat rest of oil in a pan
  • Add ½tsp of mustard, allow it to splutter
  • Add ½tsp each of channa dhal, urad dhal
  • Add red chili, curry leaves, asafoetida, fry a little
  • Add onion, fry well until trans lucent
  • Sprinkle a little salt
  • Garnish over steam cooked upma balls
  • Serve hot with coconut chutney or onion tomato chutney
